About me.

I have been creating and teaching art for many years. I have been making and teaching in the following expressive forms: drawing, painting, animation, 3D Modelling, photography and sculpture. In addition, I am a PhD candidate researching how boys are developing empathy from their material art practice at the University of Newcastle.

My Story

There are numerous misconceptions surrounding art and its role in the world. Some argue that the production process of art is not as significant for knowledge construction as more empirical paradigms, such as STEM. However, as a teacher, researcher, and artist, I firmly believe that visual arts and their modes of understanding play a crucial role in meaning-making and comprehending the complexities of the 21st century.

In today's context, gaining an understanding of visual arts and its visual language is essential for navigating through an increasingly visual and digitally mediated landscape. Recognising the value of arts practices and research has the potential to contribute to a more ethical and profound way of 'being' in the world. Through my own art teaching,  practice, and educational research, I aspire to contribute knowledge that proves useful for stakeholders in planning for a more sustainable and ethical form of human and non-human flourishing. It is my hope that by emphasising the significance of visual arts, we can pave the way for a more enlightened and caring coexistence with our world.
